Prof. Ascher Shmulewitz

M.D., President Medegenesis

Ascher Shmulewitz is a physician and scientist. Dr. Shmulewitz graduated (cum laude) from the Israel Institute of Technology, and while in clinical training, he received a PhD in Engineering from Tel-Aviv University.

Between 1983- 1997, Dr. Shmulewitz practiced Medicine (Cardiology) and was in academic positions in Israel and in the US.
Between 1989-2002, Dr. Shmulewitz held senior executive at Advanced Technology Laboratories, a subsidiary of Westmark (Squibb), the largest medtech holding company on the US West Coast.

In 1996, Dr. Shmulewitz co-founded San Francisco Science and the Incumed Group (a West Coast (Seattle and San Francisco) based seed investment group.
Dr. Shmulewitz is a prolific inventor and has originated over two dozen Life Science companies including NeoVision, Labcoat, Arteria, Circulation,  X-Cardia , and others. Over half the companies he originated or organized have complete trade sales with large medical device companies like Edwards, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, US Surgical/Tyco, and Imagyn.
Dr. Shmulewitz relocated to Israel in 2002, and founded Medgenesis Partners, a private incubator based in Tel-Aviv.

  

Mr. Berman Michael

Mr. Berman was a co-founder of Velocimed which was sold to St. Jude Medical in April, 2005 for $82.5M.
Mr. Berman was a Director of Lutonix from 2007 until 2011 when it was sold to CR Bard for $225M, plus $100M upon FDA approval.

Mr. Berman was a co-founder and Chairman of BridgePoint Medical from 2005 till 2012 when it was sold to Boston Scientific.

Mr. Berman was a director of UltraShape inc. from 2005 till 2011 when it was sold to Syneron.
From 1995-2000 Mr. Berman was the President of the Cardiology business of Boston Scientific.

Amir Szold, MD,   

is pioneer laparoscopic surgeon, trained in surgery in Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem and Mount Sinai Medical Center New York. In the late 90’s he was the founder and first president of the Israeli Society of Endoscopic Surgery, and was recently a Board Member, and the Technology Committee Chairman, European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons, and Board Member, Israeli Society of Surgeons. Dr. Szold is heavily involved in medical innovation. He is the Founder, advisor and board member in multiple medical device start up companies in Israel and Europe, covering fields of 3D vision, robotics, soft tissue replacements, surgical glues, laser technology, smart materials and laparoscopic devices. He is also the Founder and Medical Director of Assia Medical Group in Tel Aviv, and the founder and current advisor of the Physicians for Human Rights volunteer clinic for illegal immigrants and refugees, Tel Aviv, Israel.
